About Us

Marian’s Story

Marian’s father worked at a company that housed a division for testing pet food. Their taste testers included unaltered cats. One of the older taste testers produced a litter of kittens, two of which were all black and extremely endearing. Those two kitties were also very lucky: they came home to live with Marian and her family. Tipsy and Topsy, as Marian named them, lived long and healthy lives, dying at ripe old ages in their late teens.

Marian passed away at the age of 25, shortly after the demise of her cats. Marian had a wonderful sense of humor and a real joy in life. She shared that enthusiasm with her family and her companion animals.

In Marian’s honor, her family established this foundation. It is our Dream, and Marian’s Dream, that all life is respected and lived to the fullest.

Our Mission

Since 1981, with the support of people like you, we have led initiatives to improve the health and well-being of companion animals.
We have always believed in leading the way to change. We know that change is made on the ground, with the hard work of grass-roots organizations and volunteers. For everyone who has adopted a stray cat, who has volunteered at a spay/neuter clinic or who has donated money: THANK YOU!

What we do?

We create and support programs to end pet overpopulation by preventing unwanted litters.

How are we different?

  1. Small
  2. Working on systemic/social change
  3. Helping grassroots programs with promise

Our Process: Marian’s Dream uses the following four step process to locate talent and innovation and help programs become successful and sustainable.

  1. Determine needs– What service for animals is missing? What is holding up progress?
  2. Develop Solutions– Who has a dream that is sound, that delivers a solid answer to the need? Does it need tweaking? Some guidance? Some leadership development? A prototype?
  3. Direct Resources- How can Marian’s Dream support this effort and bring additional resources to help the program grow and become successful?
  4. Deliver Sustainability – Where is the best place for this program to be sustained and supported on into the future?

Our Board

Our board is, in a word, great. These are people who are not afraid to change the world. All of them have done so much to advance the welfare and well-being of animals. Marian’s Dream is proud to have them as part of our organization!
